When it comes to looking around online for “Pepsodent Toothpaste”, our friend the Google search engine can show us much, first of all displaying more than 500,000 results within 0.43 seconds. Here, we can see that Wikipedia has made its own page for the product line, and that Walgreens is a top supplier of it as well….but what else should we know about it?
Well, first of all, let’s talk about the greater name brand being mentioned here….that of Pepsodent. And to begin, Pepsodent is a U.S. toothpaste brand that mainly uses sassafras to derive its minty flavoring. Unilever has owned this toothpaste, as its parent supplier, ever since 1942 --- in all places but the U.S.A and Canada, where its main owner has been Church & Dwight. Pepsodent originally began in Chicago and, after growing with unprecedented and unexpectedly rapid popularity, gradually became a thing in many other U.S. states within the East Coast, such as New York. Now, you can find it in most Walgreens anywhere in the U.S. or even order mass stocks of it online, to have it arrive within 1 - 2 weeks after the order date.
There are some aspects to consider about this toothpaste. This household name brand toothpaste that many proud Americans have come to grow up with and hold as an everyday commodity is special in so many ways. Firstly, since it sells so well, it’s one of the least expensive toothpastes around as supply and demand have kicked into play here. But also, let’s consider one of the negative factors for some ---- the very fact that this toothpaste does have fluoride in it, and for some, that alone is a “deal breaker”. It all depends on your own particular stance on fluoride, as a consumer. Some are completely opposed to the idea of letting in the most minimal amount of fluoride into their toothpaste and onto their brush whereas others could care less what fluoride even is.
But I believe there should be a balance, and holding all things in moderation is key. For instance, the fact is undeniable: Countless recent studies have truly shown the degrading effects of fluoride on the mind, mouth, will and emotions, and a few other areas. Yet very small trace amounts cannot do much harm, so therein lies the balance, once again. If you can afford a toothpaste that’s fully free of fluoride, that would be the ideal solution ---- but then again, many people these days simply cannot and prefer a more common brand name like that of Pepsodent, having trusted it for many years already…..
